Jay Rusnak

Jay RusnakHailing from Chicago, IL, where he was an in-demand player and instructor, Jay Rusnak now makes his home in Raleigh, NC, where he is proud to be affiliated with LOCALS Guitars and Music.  Along with teaching duties, Jay keeps a busy live schedule by performing across the Southeast with a variety of different musical acts.  He is in the midst of authoring a book detailing fresh, logical and concise theoretical and technical approaches to advanced lead guitar improvisation, as well as composing and recording a rock opera. 


Jay attended the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music where he studied advanced Classical Theory, Voice leading, and Jazz Improvisation and has been featured in national magazines such as GUITAR WORLD while also authoring instructional columns for several other guitar publications.  In addition, Jay recorded and toured nationally from 2002-2006 with multiplatinum recording artist Ron Keel.  Jay is currently endorsed by Rotosound strings, Morley pedals and In-Tune Guitar Picks.


With twenty-five years experience as a player, teacher, and performer in nearly every imaginable musical style and situation, Jay specializes in utilizing a variety of teaching methods and philosophies to connect with and enable rapid progress both technically and theoretically in students of all ages, and ability levels.

Dan Coleman

Dan attended UNC-Chapel Hill where he was awarded the C. Ruth Edwards scholarship for having the highest GPA in the senior class Music Department. While there, he Dan Colemanparticipated in private and independent study with professional instructors, Rex Griffin and Dr. Bob Luckey.  He also performed with UNC-Chapel Hill Guitar Ensemble 1985-1986.


As a student at NC Central University in Durham NC, Dan earned a Bachelor of Music degree with a Major in Guitar, also while receiving student honors.  During 1982-1986, Dan performed with the Jazz Ensemble throughout NC.


In addition to a history of performances since 1980 with Swing, Blues and Rock Bands throughout NC and SC, Dan has also led seminars in music and guitar for children through the Durham Parks and Recreation Dept.  Dan has extensive production and recording experience and the advantage of having a private, in-home studio. 


By utilizing skills from the Kodaly learning technique and a proven track record in developing technique, Dan is able to customize lesson plans that address a student’s interest, goals and abilities.

Max Drake


Max DrakeMax Drake hails from Statesville NC. A lifelong guitar player, he has been playing since the age of 17 and teaching guitar 25 years. Originally self taught, he has studied with Scott Manring of the UNCG music program and Rita Blankenship of Statesville NC.

Max teaches all ages Fundamentals of Guitar, Basic Reading & Theory and Basic Rhythm & Lead Guitar. He is heavily versed in the classic blues masters styles of B.B. King, Freddie King and Albert King. If you are interested in learning Rockabilly, Blues, R&B, Soul or Slide guitar and Dobro , Max is your guy.

Notable players Max has performed with include B.B. King, James Cotton, Lightning Hopkins, Bo Diddley, Mick Taylor, Johnny Copeland. He performs regularly with Mel Melton & The Wicked Mojo's at Papa Mojo's Roadhouse in Durham and has performed internationally at the Toronto Blues Fest and the RAWA Blues & Jazz Festival in Katowice Poland.


Awards: 2009 Sandcastle Award for Best Original Film Score "Bone Creek".

Chris Keller

Chris KellerPianist/composer Chris Keller has played music professionally for over 30 years. Her performance credits include both jazz and classical concerts at universities, theatres, clubs, hotels, cruises, restaurants, radio and television stations throughout North, Central and South America. Her major focus of promoting peace through music has led to "Jazz for World Unity".


Concerts in such diverse venues as the Baha'i House of Worship,WBEZ Radio, Crosscurrents, and the Palmer House in Chicago, the Waldorf Astoria in New York, Kennedy Center in Washington DC, Pratt Library in Baltimore, Teatro Teresa Carena (Jazz Caracas Festival), Universidad de Los Andes (Merida), Radio Juventud (Barquisimeto), Museo de Artes Graficas and Club Nautico de Hotel InterContinental (Maracaibo) in Venezuela (where she served as a Baha'i pioneer '87-'93).


Education: Bachelor of Music UNC Chapel Hill 1973. Studied with Jim Milne at NC State University 1978.


Her CD with Aurora Jazz, "Love Is The Answer" has received international acclaim and airplay on college and commercial radio.

Tommy Romero

Chris KellerWith 8 years of instructing and 10 years live performance experience Tommy is a natural at the drum craft. Playing in the Chicago music scene for 6 years he is known for specializing in the rock genre however he enjoys playing all styles. Tommy has previously toured and recorded extensively in various bands across the US and Canada playing packed stadiums in front of over 5000 people at a time, he is sharp and well seasoned.


Always keeping busy practicing, still performing live and now teaching at LOCALS guitars his approach varies from student to student he says "because some are naturally better at certain criteria than others".

 

Whether you want to learn the bare basics of the snare drum or drum kit, run through rudiment workshops, learn different fills, double bass or brush up on your live performance Tommy is here to find out what works best for you. His knowledge of the drumming profession is extensive, his playing is technical and precise. Be confident in knowing you are sure to find what your drumming needs here with Tommy.
